Videos

Pinterest keeps an MP4 copy of most video pins. Its largest MP4 is 720p: for idea pins the streaming playlist tops out at 720 pixels wide (720×1280 for a vertical clip), and classic video pins list a 720p file. The tool reads the file itself and shows the real resolution and size before you save, for example 720×1280 and 2.2 MB for a 9.5-second idea pin in our test.

Images

For a picture pin the tool fetches the original file Pinterest stores, not the 736-pixel preview the app shows. In our test a carousel picture listed as 736 pixels wide downloaded as an original of 1365×1706 pixels (194 KB). The format stays what the uploader used, usually JPG, sometimes PNG or WebP.

GIFs

GIF pins keep the original animated .gif. We checked: Pinterest serves no MP4 copy of a GIF pin, so the download is the .gif itself, which can be large (a 128×128 animation in our test was 1.49 MB). A still JPG of the first frame is offered too.

Reels

Pinterest's short videos are idea pins (the app's Reels-style feed). Their JSON lists only a streaming playlist; the tool finds the matching 720p MP4 and checks that it exists. Carousel pins with several slides give one download per slide, video or picture, up to 20.

Audio

The sound is cut out of the pin's MP4 on your own device: the AAC samples are copied byte for byte into an .m4a file, with no re-encoding. In our tests a 9.5-second clip gave an 80 KB M4A and a 13-second clip 109 KB. If a video has no sound track, the tool says so instead of giving you a silent file.

Guides
